KITE JAM CELEBRATION WEEK FEBRUARY 2010

Normally Necker Island is hired privately by an individual or group, but during our Kite Jam Celebration Week in February, couples or singles can book one of 14 rooms individually and share the island with others.
Exclusively in 2010 Necker Island will host a Celebration Week to coincide with the inaugural British Virgin Island Kite Jam supported by Sir Richard Branson and sponsored by the BVI Tourism Board. Kite boarding enthusiasts from around the globe will descend on the British Virgin Islands for races and freestyle competitions. The event will take place from March 1st to 5th, but our Celebration Week starts on the February 27th, which gives you some extra time to practice!
As a VIP guest on Necker, you’ll be invited to the opening party on Sunday the 28th, plus the opening rounds of the competition will take place around the island on the Monday. Full details of the week’s itinerary follow below.

Saturday, 27th February, 2010:
- Necker Island Celebration Week guests arrive from 16h
Sunday, 28th February, 2010:

Monday, 1st March, 2010:

- Late morning – the first competition starts with a race around NeckerIsland. Amateurs will complete 1 lap while the professionals will complete 2
- Lunch and relaxation on NeckerIsland’s main beach
- In the afternoon there will be a further competition in the Eusticia Sound (just south of Necker Island) consisting of either heat-run freestyle, sliders (tricks performed on ramps or rails placed securely in the water – kite surfers slide up them to perform tricks) or big air (big air or heavy air is kite-surfing in strong winds of 30 or more knots) depending on the weather
- The yachts will then move to Prickly Pear’s Sand Box on PricklyPearIsland slightly further south for a dinner and party
Tuesday, 2nd March, 2010:

Wednesday, 3rd March, 2010:

Riders will have the chance to kite through the most spectacular bay in the British Virgin Islands known as Windlass Bight. This bay not only provides the ultimate flat-water playground but also offers experienced riders good quality waves outside the reef. Lunch will be at Cow Wreck Beach or you can continue kiting through lunch if you just can’t get enough!
- In the afternoon kiters can head to the West End of Anegada for world class wave riding conditions or stay at Cow Wreck Beach for a freestyle competition
- Dinner and the evening party will be held at The Whistling Pines, Anegada
